Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
Becky was born and raised in Florida and moved to Kingman, AZ in 1970. She raised her family here. She served two terms on the Mohave County Board of Supervisors, was a licensed Realtor® in both Arizona and Nevada, studied appraisal methods at ASU (Arizona State University) and worked with a local appraiser. She has a Bachelor's degree in Business Admin with minor studies in Journalism. She was Acting Personnel Director for Mohave County and Personnel Director for the Hualapai Tribal Council in Peach Springs, AZ. Additionally, she owned a legal transcription service producing civil/criminal trial transcripts for Nevada's busiest court, the 8th Judicial District Court in Las Vegas. She is currently a contributing journalist with The Standard Newspaper in Kingman – a county-wide newspaper. Becky’s public service includes being a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), volunteering in the ER and gift shop at KRMC (Kingman Regional Medical Center), Volunteer Sheriff’s Posse member, providing pro bono process service to Community Legal Services in Kingman when she was a private process server, volunteering at the polls during elections and as a supervisor of poll workers in Las Vegas.
She is a principled, proven and prepared. Becky is far from a one-dimensional candidate and possesses wide-ranging and varied experience and qualifications that will be useful to her in the position of county assessor.
Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
Making sure that the constitution is strictly followed; protecting free speech and the right to possess firearms; taxation; transparency in government and budgeting; justice system -- equal justice for all Americans. And, of course, A SECURE BORDER.
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
First and foremost: INTEGRITY. Without integrity a candidate has nothing of consequence to offer. All things, large or small, that a candidate does in their private life transfers to their public life if elected.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
Honest, ethical, solid work ethic and a desire to serve.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
The core responsibility is to follow the state statutes and make sure the assessor's office is meeting its legal obligations to the taxpayers of Mohave County. After that, managing and directing the office with integrity. Treating the public and employees with dignity, respect and fairness.
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
President Kennedy was assassinated. I was 13 years old and sitting in Civics class. when it was announced over the loud speaker. It had a lasting impact on me.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
I was 11 years old and mowed people's lawns for spending money along with my best friend Randy. We made money to go to the movies and get a meal sometimes. My first employment was at a donut shop after school (13 years old). I had that job for one school year and then went on to high school.
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
What is something that has been a struggle in your life?
What organizations or individuals have endorsed your campaign?
I do not care for endorsements and have not sought endorsements. The only endorsement I care about is voters.
What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability?
My views are very simple. Everything, with the exception of legally sensitive issues, should be made transparent and available to the voters and taxpayers. TRANSPARENCY is of utmost importance and ACCOUNTABILITY also.
A budget that is transparent and easily understood by taxpayers is essential for good government. Unfortunately, that is not always the case, especially for Mohave County.
Accountability is a must -- otherwise the same things will happen over and over with no consequences. I firmly believe in ACCOUNTABILITY, not only to remove people who continually violate the public trust but to correct honest mistakes.
