Top 5 Reasons for Water Damage Restoration in Mohave Valley, AZ

Did you know that almost 40% of homeowners have suffered a loss due to water damage? When water floods your home, it has the potential to cause contamination, destroy paint, and even cause mold growth. The good news is that most water damage situations in Arizona can be avoided with proper knowledge. What steps can you take to safeguard your home from water damage? Here are seven methods to help you prepare.

Emergency Water Removal Mohave Valley, AZ

Like most of today's consumer products, appliances start to break down as they get old. One of the most common problems is that their pipes can rust, and hoses can weaken, leading to leaks. For dishwashers, issues like worn gaskets, broken doors, and clogged drains are common culprits. These leaks can damage your flooring, electrical system, and paint. You can prevent buildup by running a quart of vinegar through the dishwasher monthly and scraping and rinsing dishes before loading.

Washing machine floods are often caused by leaky hoses that worsen over time, risking damage to your home. Installing a washing machine valve shutoff kit can prevent potential flooding from the massive six gallons of water per minute.

Refrigerators can also cause problems, as they produce excess water that can pool at the bottom of your fridge when drain lines are clogged. Plus, a leak in the water supply line to the ice machine can lead to significant standing water in your home. To prevent flooding, ensure your refrigerator is well insulated, avoid moving it frequently, and regularly check for leaks.

Flood Cleanup Mohave Valley, AZ

Plumbing systems, particularly in older residences, are vulnerable to blockages and harm. To prevent plumbing issues from arising, keep an eye out for fractures, protrusions, discolorations, and other indications of moisture on your ceilings or floors. If you notice a leak, it may indicate damage in other areas as well. Increases in your water bill may suggest that you have further damage to your landscaping, flooring, and foundation.

Keep an eye out for pipes in areas prone to gathering water, such as crawl spaces, cabinets, and attics. If you observe any indications of water damage, contact a plumber immediately to prevent larger issues in the future. Make sure to inspect and insulate your pipes annually before the onset of winter. Pipes can burst and freeze within a few hours, causing water damage to your entire house.

Restoration Services Mohave Valley, AZ

While blizzards and hurricanes aren't common occurrences in Arizona, our state does suffer from natural disasters. We're talking floods, earthquakes, and wildfires that often result in residential and commercial water damage. In the case of flooding, large amounts of water can't be absorbed by the land and may overflow into your home. A flood alarm and warning system can help you protect your home against a natural disaster. You should also consider sump pumps for your basement or grading that carries water away from your home. Make sure you know where your water main is and shut it off during an emergency or when you're away on vacation. If you come home and your basement is flooded unexpectedly, your best bet is to call a disaster recovery company like Restoration 1 for water damage clean-up in Mohave Valley, AZ.

Professional Restoration Team Mohave Valley, AZ

If you have a family or even just a significant other, you probably know first-hand how fast bathroom and sink drains can get clogged. When clogs happen, pipes can deteriorate, and structural damage follows. When left unattended, clogged drains can even lead to damage in other areas of your home.

For instance, a blocked toilet can cause a backup into your sink. It might even lead to warping of the floorboards and wall support. Small screens can assist in preventing unwanted materials from obstructing drains. Pouring boiling water down your drain once a month can aid in dissolving grease, soap scum, and other debris before it obstructs your pipes.

Before And After Water Damage Mohave Valley, AZ

Remember to keep an eye on your sump pump. If it stops working, it could lead to a major flood in your basement, resulting in mold growth and bacteria concerns. To ensure your sump pump functions properly, make sure it's always standing upright. Check and see if the vent hole in the discharge pipe is clear and if the outlet pipes are joined tightly and drained at least six feet away from your house. If you spot any leaks, contact a professional water damage company as soon as you can to prevent more damage from happening.

FORT MOHAVE, AZ — An 8-year-old boy was arrested Monday after a loaded gun was found at Fort Mohave Elementary School in western Arizona.

Just before noon on Monday, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office was alerted by school staff about a gun on campus.

Before deputies arrived, a student was removed from a classroom and the weapon was secured.

MCSO says an investigation revealed the 8-year-old student was in possession of a loaded handgun.

Officials say the student showed the gun to other students and handed it off to another student.

A student who was not involved overheard the information and alerted the school's principal.

This prompted the school to take action and remove the boy with the gun from his classroom.

During an interview with the boy, his parents, and the 2nd student who took possession of the gun, it was revealed that a threat was made against a teacher while the first student had it.

The boy was arrested and taken to Mohave County Juvenile Detention Center to face multiple charges, including misconduct involving weapons, disorderly conduct, interfering with an educational institution and threatening/intimidating.

MCSO is still investigating how the boy got possession of the gun and who it belongs to.

Possible charges against the second boy are to be determined pending the outcome of the investigation.

The superintendent of the Mohave Valley School District, Cole Young, sent the following statement on today's incident to ABC15:

"Following the investigation by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, we now understand more fully the seriousness of this incident. It reinforces that an event like this can happen anywhere, even in the remote areas of Mohave County. Our District’s top priority remains the safety of our students and staff. Because a student immediately reported what they saw, our team was able to secure the situation right away. We appreciate the response of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and will continue working closely with them to ensure our campuses remain safe places to learn."

Wikieup, AZ – Drivers traveling through northwestern Arizona are facing major delays today after a crash forced the complete closure of US 93 near Wikieup, cutting off a key route between Phoenix and Las Vegas.

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT), US 93 is closed in both directions at milepost 107, north of Wikieup, following a crash reported earlier today. Officials say there is no estimated time to reopen the highway as crews continue to respond at the scene.

US 93 is a critical corridor through Mohave County, frequently used by commuters, commercial drivers, and travelers heading between Phoenix, Kingman, and Las Vegas. The closure is expected to cause significant delays and detours, especially during daytime travel hours.

ADOT has not released details about injuries or the number of vehicles involved. Motorists are advised to avoid the area entirely and plan alternate routes if possible. Travelers can monitor live traffic conditions through AZ511.gov or the AZ511 mobile app, which provides real-time updates on closures, delays, and detours statewide.

Drivers already in the region may experience extended backups while emergency responders and road crews work to clear the crash scene and assess roadway conditions. Weather and terrain in the area can also slow response times, adding to uncertainty around reopening.

Motorists heading north toward Kingman or south toward Wickenburg and Phoenix should allow extra time or delay travel until the highway reopens.

Mohave County, AZ (December 17, 2025) – Police are investigating a boat crash on the Colorado River that injured three people near Lake Havasu in western Arizona on Friday afternoon.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 3 p.m. on December 12 to reports of a serious boating accident near the mouth of the Colorado River.

Crews from the San Bernardino County Fire Department in California also assisted at the scene.

Before emergency responders arrived, nearby boaters stepped in and pulled three individuals from the water.

Fire crews transported the injured victims by boat to Lake Havasu State Park, where ground ambulances then took them to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities reported that two of the individuals sustained minor injuries, while a third suffered more serious injuries. No additional victims were involved.

Investigators believe the boat struck a sandbar, causing it to flip and eject all three occupants.

The vessel reportedly came to rest upside down in approximately five feet of water.

The crash remains under investigation by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, Arizona is currently experiencing an outbreak of measles along the Arizona-Utah border. Cases have been concentrated in Colorado City.

To date, 153 total measles cases have been reported, including 149 cases in Mohave County in northwest Arizona and four cases in Navajo County in the north of the state, both bordering Utah. It is the second-largest outbreak of measles in the nation this year.

The measles strain from the Arizona-Utah outbreak is different from the one from Texas.

Four cases required hospitalization for their illness and no deaths were reported.

Two thirds of the cases were in children under 18 years of age and 96 percent of the total cases were unvaccinated.

Measles is not just a childhood illness, it can cause long-term health complications, result in hospitalization, or even death. Measles spreads easily through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. The virus can linger for up to two hours after the infected person leaves the area. Without protection of vaccination or prior immunity, nine out of 10 people who are exposed to measles will become infected.

Those at greatest risk include: • Pregnant women • Infants and children younger than five years of age • Adults older than 20 years of age • People with weakened immune systems • Anyone who has not received the MMR vaccine.

Measles can cause severe health problems, including: • Pneumonia • Brain swelling (encephalitis) • Fever-induced seizures • Permanent hearing or vision loss • In rare cases paralysis, or death

One of the most serious long-term complications is Subacute Sclerosing Panencephalitis (SSPE), a rare but fatal brain disease that can occur seven to 11 years after measles infection, particularly in children infected at a very young age.

MOHAVE COUNTY, AZ (AZFamily) — A K-9 for a northern Arizona sheriff’s office is recovering after successfully having his leg amputated this week.

K-9 Brutus with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) had his front left leg amputated due to lingering injuries from a crash three years ago.

MCSO says Brutus is now with his handler for recovery.

In May 2022, deputy Jeremy Felish was finishing up a call on the side of I-15 when he saw headlights coming towards his squad car. He pushed himself away from the car, which was sent 40 yards down the interstate, according to the MCSO K-9 Foundation.

Brutus, who started serving with the department in June 2017, was inside the squad car’s cage when the crash happened and suffered internal bruising with no other obvious injuries. That was until injuries became a bit more apparent this year.

This summer, deputies noticed Brutus had a slight limp in his front left leg. Doctors listed it as arthritis in his paw and prescribed him medication, according to the K-9 Foundation.

Over the next several months, the limp got worse and worse, with muscle atrophy in the dog’s left front shoulder. Doctors recommended continuing the medication and trying to exercise and massage Brutus’s leg.

But earlier this month, Brutus was taken to Kanab Veterinarian Clinic for another opinion, where doctors determined Brutus had suffered nerve damage during the 2022 crash. Veterinarians recommended that they amputate Brutus’s leg because it was not feeling any pain or pressure nor receiving any use.

Doctors found extensive nerve damage in Brutus’ leg that was believed to be caused by a tumor.

The amputation took place on Monday. Doctors told deputies although the tumor is in the spinal cavity, they are confident it is not causing Brutus any pain or discomfort. Due to the surgery and Brutus’ age, he will not receive any radiation.

MCSO thanked all veterinarians involved in treating Brutus, as well as donors who have assisted.
